Virtual Calibration for Combustion Engine Development

Traditional combustion engine calibration is expensive, time-consuming, and hardware-constrained; with cross-functional iteration consuming up to one-third of the entire development program. GT-SUITE's virtual calibration workflow eliminates these bottlenecks by replacing physical test sweeps with high-fidelity simulation, enabling engineering teams to explore broader design spaces faster and at lower cost.

The platform delivers four integrated capabilities:

Design of Experiments (DOE): automated sampling strategies (Latin Hypercube, D-Optimal, Monte Carlo) combined with Sobol and Morris sensitivity analysis to identify critical calibration factors early

Metamodeling & Machine Learning: Polynomial, Kriging, MLP, and NARX neural network surrogate models that execute orders of magnitude faster than physics models and deploy directly to ECU hardware

Multi-objective optimization: Automated pre-filling of actuator maps and closed-loop virtual calibration in MiL/SiL/HiL environments, simultaneously balancing fuel efficiency, emissions, and regulatory compliance

Parallel computing: Distributed execution across compute clusters with GT-POWER-xRT real-time models (0.3–2× RT), compressing program timelines by months

Organizations already have all the pieces to implement virtual calibration. GT-SUITE integrates them into a single workflow that reduces prototype risk, expands regulatory coverage, and brings higher-quality engines to market faster.
