Abstract
With the rising number of EVs, the HVAC / heat pump system gains more and more attention during the vehicle development as it constitutes a major power consumer. Under extreme ambient conditions, it can reduce vehicle range by up to 30%. This poses many technical challenges that energy balance and cabin engineers need to work together to address, such as :- How to ensure optimal passenger thermal comfort and a premium feeling in the vehicle with minimal energy consumption ?
- How to balance between temperature control and thermal sensation while minimizing expensive climatic tests ?
- How to find the best solution that has minimal impact on the total cost of the vehicle, and the repercussions on the status of the final product ?
- How to design and optimize the complex and integrated controls required to balance comfort vs energy consumption
A real success story from our customer Applus IDIADA will be highlighted.
